"If you want to be a plant parent and don't know where to start, then Houseplant Basics is a great introductory course to help you on your way. Instead of searching through articles online and YouTube videos in a reactionary way, Summer Rayne puts all the information you would want into one place. Before buying your first plant—or perhaps after you have killed several—Houseplant Basics suggests easy starter plants and how to care for them in your home." |

"I don't have much experience with plants and have felt hesitant making purchases in the past. I feel like after Houseplant Basics, I have a really good base for at least keeping my plants alive and I hope to expand this knowledge to become an even better plant parent." |

Your Instructor
I'm an environmental scientist and entomologist by training ( Cornell University ) and have done quite a bit of work in the field, including reclaiming mine sites, restoring forest ecosystems, monitoring stream water quality with aquatic insects, and a host of other fun projects outdoors. Sometimes it's challenging to communicate how these efforts impact us, so in 2005 I moved to Brooklyn to explore how I could apply my environmental knowledge to industries that noticeably impact our everyday lives—from what we wear to what we eat to what we grow.
The Houseplant Masterclass, Houseplant Basics, and my other plant-related courses were inspired by my lifetime love of growing plants—both indoors and outdoors. However, I noticed there was a gap for people who wanted to learn more about in-depth houseplant care online, so that's how this became a course online. I hope you enjoy it!

"The Houseplant Basics course was very detailed! I was in LOVE with how much information was provided and the videos were helpful. I was able to evaluate my home conditions and troubleshoot many of my current plants that needed help. The tips, suggestions and most of the tools available in this course are very helpful and definitely recommend to go through this course. I’m super excited for the new plant care spreadsheet; that not only is very helpful to understand your plants, but it will also turn into a must have tool for a more detailed care of your plants. As a new plant lover, I never imagined that there’s many different things that can affect your plants in your home, and I’m glad I got to do Houseplant Basics to understand and learn more about what my plants need. I highly recommend this course." |
