I'm an environmental scientist and entomologist by training ( Cornell University ) and have done quite a bit of work in the field, including reclaiming mine sites, restoring forest ecosystems, monitoring stream water quality with aquatic insects, and a host of other fun projects outdoors. Sometimes it's challenging to communicate how these efforts impact us, so in 2005 I moved to Brooklyn to explore how I could apply my environmental knowledge to industries that noticeably impact our everyday lives—from what we wear to what we eat to what we grow.

The Houseplant Masterclass, Houseplant Basics, and my other plant-related courses were inspired by my lifetime love of growing plants—both indoors and outdoors. However, I noticed there was a gap for people who wanted to learn more about in-depth houseplant care online, so that's how this became a course online. I hope you enjoy it!

The course starts as soon as you enroll. In order for you to proceed to the next sections, you'll need to finish the sections before. Once you enroll, you'll always have access to the course.
How long do I have access to the course?
After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.
Who is the Houseplant Basics Course for?
This is for beginners on their houseplant journey. Perhaps you are thinking about getting houseplants, have just gotten your first houseplant, or are looking to take your first Houseplant 101 workshop or course. Houseplant Basics is perfect for you. Even if you're just one year into your journey and have not had a solid Houseplant 101 workshop, then this is a great place to start. What is the refund policy of Houseplant Basics?
Due to the on-demand digital nature of the Houseplant Basics course, there are unfortunately no refunds for the product.
What if I've never owned a plant before. Is this course right for me?
Absolutely! This course was created specifically for people who are just starting out on their houseplant journey or folks that are looking for a workshop or course to give them basic houseplant knowledge. You'll learn the basics about what a plant is, how it uses light, how to establish the right light in your home, watering, potting up and placing plants in your home, and more.
I don’t have a laptop or desktop. Can I do this course on my tablet or mobile phone?
Yes! Houseplant Basics is optimized for all devices, including a tablet or a mobile phone, so you can do the course even while you’re in transit on a train, plane, or waiting at the airport or at the doctor’s office, for instance—provided that you have an internet connection.
I'm outside the United States, can I still do Houseplant Basics?
Absolutely! Houseplant Basics was particularly designed for people who are not able to attend my in-person workshops and who have a desire to learn more about their plants. Houseplant Basics is done entirely online, so you can purchase the program online from anywhere in the world, as long as you have a valid credit card. The course, however, is only offered in the English language at this time.

At the end of the course, you’ll find a short survey that we encourage you to do so that we can get your thoughts on what you liked about the course and how you’d improve it.
